St. Mary-Corwin to celebrate National Cancer Survivor’s Day
While every day lived after a cancer diagnosis is cause for celebration,
Southern Colorado cancer survivors can celebrate en masse on Sunday, June 4
from 1 pm - 4 pm at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center’s The Reverend Roger
Patrick Dorcy Cancer Center, located at 2004 Lake Ave. The event aims to honor
the strength and courage of not only current and former patients, but their
families and caregivers as well. The public is invited to join in the
celebration of life after cancer.
According to Janice Hobson, manager of radiation therapy at St. Mary-Corwin
and event coordinator, numerous activities are planned including a memorial
service and candle lighting ceremony, tours of the new cancer center,
discussions on various topics, food, entertainment and more.
“It’s going to be really festive,” Hobson says, “and appropriately poignant
with many reflections and inspirational speakers. We’re hoping to bring together
many wonderful stories and expressions of those who have overcome their
illness.”
Toward that end, the cancer center is soliciting the public’s input in
sharing the stories and journeys of cancer survivors. Actual written stories,
artwork, poetry, photography and music — and any other expressive medium — are
welcome. Contributors are encouraged to submit copies rather than original
works, as materials will not be returned. People interested in participating
should contact Hobson at (719) 560-5460 by Mon, May 22.
